Support of 100GB blu-ray discs (BDXL) and BD-5750H drive

  • Hi,
perhaps but not directly with the box.

    ciao

  • There is no Linux software which does this directly (yet).
Search for "linux", "UDF" and "2.5" and you will find the reason why.

    ....
The main target of this buy is to burn BDXL discs(100GB). Because of my hard drive is full at 8000 :) .

Why not buy external HDD and connect at USB to DM8000??

    Best regards!

  • Hi,
in your link is written that it is in research and not possible right now. PERHAPS it will be possible in the future. And when you take a look at the date (2010) it will not be the near future.

    ciao

Because USB hard disc is not avaible to record 2 bluray recordings at one time, because of USB speed
    ...

Speed-issue should not be a argument against external USB-HDD: USB 2.0 is specified up to 320Mbit/s.
1xBluRay Video-Stream is specified with max. arround 50Mbit/s.
Why making live more complicate as necessary;)??

By the way: USB 2.0 is specified up to 480 MBit/s...
But the problem is that the host chip must be able to use this speeds...

It's like a car on a motorway: If the motorway allows you to drive speeds up to 200 km/h (USB 2.0) but your car (host chip) is only able to run with 120 km/h, then you can only drive 120 km/h.

That's the same here with the Dreamboxes:
The host chips are conform to USB 2.0, but they aren't fast enough to support the full 480 MBit/s. This has something to do with the chip itself but also with the internal architecture of the mainboard and CPU.

  • Convinced about max. Datatransfer-Rate from USB 2.0 (higher as expected), but in behalf of "dis1000":
=> What DM8000 can transfer by USB 2.0??

    Best regards!

  • here is an answer from developers:

    Zitat

the option is currently not available. But as our development sits on asolution that is Timely disposal.

  • What you are talking about, is "data backup" to a blu ray disk, not burning a
    video on blu ray.
It is possible to burn data onto a blu ray disk via Linux. It is not possible to
burn a video onto blu ray via Linux (see my post before).
Now you will ask, what is the difference between "data" and "video".
For data, there is no specific standard needed for blu ray.
For video, there is a specific standard which has to be followed to produce
a working blu ray. Currently there is no support in Linux for this specific format.
If you burn a TS file onto a blu ray disk, this is NOT a video blu ray but a data
    blu ray.
So the correct question to the DMM developer is:
When do you support burning of data blue ray disks?
