OoZooN-CVS-full-dm8000-20090829.nfi + OoZooN-CVS-lean-dm8000-20090829.nfi (enigma2 2.6 dev)

  • Yesterday I updated my DM8k OoZooN-CVS-full-dm8000-20090829 using the update check plugin.
The update froze with this info on screen:-
    http://www.oozoon-dreamboxupda…000/20081213/feed/libpyth
Which I guess was one of the python libraries.
There is no crash log or update log file.
I had to re-install the image, then update using software manager. The DM is now behaving very strangely - it locks up at random places.

    1. is there a way to force updatecheck to write a log file?
    2. can I clear the flash memory before installing a new image? - if so how?

  • in this case a log doesn't help. the box freezes and it isn't anything written to the log anymore. it seems that is a memory problem. it's better to check free working memory with "free" before or reboot the box before updating.

if you flash the box, the flash will be complete overwritten.

... and when I have the free memory information - what next?

  • do a prayer that it is enough - or better reboot to have more free memory :)

  • i made a test on my 800 this afternoon. when update starts it was about 70 mb free memory. when finished about 20 mb. i can't tell you what happens if you have only 5 mb free. test it.

  • if the skin is provided in oozoon notation (enigma2-plugin-skins-***-version.ipk) and maintained by a person (which i can contact, if there is trouble) than it's no problem, to include him on download-feed.

and the skin ipk does not patch or overwrite files from other ipk's!

I had 3MB free when I started the update; maybe that's what causes the problems.
I have a swap file enabled (CF), but it doesn't show any memory being used.
Should I delete plugins before upgrading to free up memory?

  • no, that doesn't change anything cause that does not free your working memory (ram) type free in telnet, reboot the box and type free again in telnet and you will see, how much ram is available then.

you mean ipkg update && ipkg upgrade for an image update

ipkg update && ipkg install xxxx.ipk to install a plugin

    Thanks.
Question is still - does this use less memory?

I think that is not the subject !
When you want update in terminal or with softwaremanger, then better restart the box before or you should create & aktivate swap, then you're prepared for surprises and you will have no problems to update.
    memory enough

But better to do update in the terminal, that you can see the output.
If any problemes occur in the output, you have infos to report here.
