How To Record on your PC

  • Using DREAMBOX 500 S

i successful added Hard disk and start record, but!

i try all top procedure step by step without success, maybe it's not clear, but some information are not so clear
(For me because I am not Uk)

The fact is, where we need to go and what is needed to insert as data!
I read about password, user privilege, ...

    I use this simple way.
I share a hard disk drawer Dreambox, that drawer is located in on simple shared network PC.

when the drawer are shared a full rw for all user, you don't need any privilege, pass and other stuff..

    On DreamBox

    - configuration
    - Configuration expert
    - network, in this menu i use the MOUNT

    You can read this information.
    ==========================
    - IP: xx.xx.xx.xx (ip of the PC who share the drawer (dreambox)
    - CIFS (not work with NFS because NFS is for Linux sharing client and it's not in use under XP
    - DIR: dreambox (just the name of the shared drawer)
    - LocalDir: /var/mnt/hdd
    - Options: rw,soft,udp,nolock (it was already, i don't change)
    - Extra: nolock,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 (by default)
    - User: root
    - Pass: dreambox

I use SAVE (yellow) and then MOUNT (green)
A box show successful mount with OK.

Info of the dreambox show me the right information
    - Blue Panel
    - Info system
    - - - POINT MOUNT

I can read my hard disk information correctly.
    ================================

    Now the result.

I successful record directly to my hard disk in real time using the web interface where just with click the RED (record) button the selected channel are recorded to the hard disk, but two problem!

    1. - the recording 'TS' are not so what I call good, some scratch images, jump sound, lost frames are in the record. (Even for free channel)

    2. - using the web interface, when you go to the MOUNT device window, every refresh window added 1 or 2 mount in existing device!
My list was increase always and infinity until i disable the mount on my dreambox and deleted manually all pseudo mounts one by one via Web.

Note: you can access Dreambox web interface via IExplorer,
just type the IP of your dreambox in link (http://Http://192.168.x.x)

    Some info about my specification:
    ======================
    BoxType: Dreambox 500 S
    Boardrev: 06
    Kernel: Linux 2.6.9
    Version 3.4.0 (Gemini project)

thx to all for your help.

  • If you want to record on pc (if you are at the pc), try TuxVisionR. It is simpler and I think better for streaminig.

  • i try it!

look like very easy to set, (IP and loggin/pass)

after decompress and register the "DBOXIISource.ax"
the program is ready to work (check options)

the quality is not like DVD but very satisfy with it! (no loose of frames)
click and record direct to your PC in MPG2 format

thx, i suggest to all to test it,

f you use more than one PC at home you can watch from any station.

  • There have been over 2000 downloads, so it must be ok for some !

Now there is an improved version TuxVisionR_2.01.

  • No I don't it just stops all of the processes say terminated in the Ngrab program. I also tryed using the DVR through blue panel and it gives an error saying in accessible storage.

  • Two things have to be noted here:

    1. I have seen many people complain about recording on DM500 on several forums. Apparently it is cam and image related and the correct combination needs to be found. The above was only tested on DM600, DM7025 and TM9100(all newer platforms).
    2. The network needs to be at least a 100MB/s network (10MB/s is too slow). The problem can also be caused by a slow/busy PC.

The jitter might be caused during playback or frame loss during recording. Try viewing the ts file on your PC (use VLC) and if the ts-file is OK then it is a playback issue.
